About This Guide

This guide is designed to help you find research studies and other scholarly information in preparation for completing your own research project.

It covers keyword search tips, advanced searching in ERIC (including using the Thesuarus), finding full text articles, and getting materials from other libraries.

If you have questions or would like to make a research appointment to discuss your project in detail, contact me.  I am happy to work with you to get your started on your project.

Getting a Library Card

If you haven't already done so, you should get a library barcode on your UMF student ID.

Your student UMF ID + a library barcode = your library card

To get a barocde, bring your student ID to the main desk (on the right as you enter the library) and ask for a barcode.  It just takes a few seconds!

You will need a barcode to:

  • check out books from the Mantor Library,
  • request books online from other libraries and have them sent to Mantor for you,
  • access materials on reserves in the library, and
  • use the library databases from off-campus.

You only need to get an ID and barcode once.

Your student ID with library barcode is good for the entire time you are enrolled in the program.

Reactivating Your Barcode

If you take a semester or summer off during your program, your library barcode will become inactive.

If you are taking a course on campus, you can reactivate your library barcode by bringing your student ID with library barcode to the Mantor Library and asking library staff to reactivate it for you. The Mantor Library can only reactiviate your card in person, not by email or phone.

If you are a distance student and/or cannot come to the Mantor Library to reactivate your barcode, please contact Off-Campus Library Services.  They can reactivate your card. (Do not request a new library card if you already have a student ID with a barcode - just ask them to reactivate your existing card).

If you lose your UMF student ID with library barcode, you can get a replacement ID card while at the UMF campus and request a new barcode from the Mantor Library in person. If you are not able to come to UMF to get a replacement ID and barcode in person, you can contact Off-Campus Library Services for a replacement.
