Library Basics

Getting a Library Card

Your student UMF ID + a library barcode = your library card.  Bring your student ID to the main desk (on the right as you enter the library) and ask for a barcode.  It just takes a few seconds!

You will need a barcode to:

  • borrow books,
  • access e-books available to UMF students,
  • request books from other libraries,
  • check out materials on reserve for a course (even if reserve items do not leave the library, they still have to be checked out to the person using them), and
  • use the library databases from off-campus.

Getting Started

Use the tabs above to find search tips and recommended resources to help you locate information on exploring the meaning on images and the history and significance of visual culture. The guide covers everything you need to know to get you started finding books and articles, evaluating  information you find, and citing your sources in your assignments.

If you have questions about your topic or need help using the library resources, contact your assigned librarian for help!
