Library Basics

These guides cover the basics of using library resources and doing research.
Masters of Science in Education
For program requirements and course offerings, check out the Web page for the Masters of Science in Education program at UMF.
Getting Started
A UMF student ID + library barcode = your library card! You will need it to borrow materials, check out course reserves, request materials from other libraries, and access databases from off campus. You can get a barcode on your UMF student ID card at the Access Services counter (on the right as you enter the library).
A library barcode is required for remote access to the library's databases. When using the databases remotely, you will be prompted for a user name and password. Enter your name and your library barcode (no spaces between the numbers). Please note: you have access to databases available through the Mantor Library only (databases available only at other campuses cannot be accessed by UMF students). To see the complete list of databases available to UMF students, check out the A to Z list.
Students need a campus ID to use computers in the library. The UMF Information Technology Services Dept. assigns the campus IDs and students should receive their log-in information from the ITS Dept. prior to orientation or with their orientation materials. If you have questions, contact the UMF ITS Dept. (778-7300).
Wireless access is available to any UMF student. See the UMF ITS Resources for Students or ask at the UMF ITS Dept.'s Help Desk if you need assistance.
Printing and Copying
Students must have money on their student print account to print from library computers. The account is created by the Computer Center as a part of a student’s campus ID log-in. It has no starting balance. You can add money to it using the machine in the 24 Hour Lab at the Computer Center. Printing costs 2¢ per page and color is 6¢ per page.
Wireless printing is not available in the library.
Photocopies are 10¢ per page or 8¢ per page with a copy card ($8.50 for 100 copies, plus 50¢ refundable deposit for the card). Copy cards can be purchased at Access Services using cash or personal check; credit and debit cards are not accepted.
